Who do you think that you are?

Its worth understanding that how you ‘feel’ or how your body ‘feels’, is just a record and a reflection of your past. It’s not generally based or anchored in the present moment.

The same is true with the future.

Its normal and automatic for many people to emotionally race off into the future, to worry, stress or be anxious about something that hasn’t happened yet. Unconsciously trying to predict their future, based on the past. To try and stay safe and prevent the awful thing from happening again.

You don’t choose this feeling with your thinking, conscious mind. Your body automatically selects it, because your body is looking for a predictable and familiar emotional state. However unbearable or draining it feels to your mind.

It’s like you put on the same clothes every day and look at a mirror, to remind yourself of who you think that you are.

So by definition your not living in the present moment because your emotionally living in the past or stuck in a loop.

As these unbearable body-feelings, emotions, memories, and thoughts are so emotionally draining, exhausting, and overwhelming. It makes easy sense, that people will eventually discover and develop mindsets, habits, behaviours and methods to escape and avoid the pain of these deep emotional bruises and unbearable feelings.

From drug use, gambling, alcohol, shopping and anger. To fitness, porn, compulsive behaviours and eating. There’s no end to the list of ways that people avoid their deep subconscious emotional pain.

ANYTHING – to avoid those ‘old’ automatic thoughts and feelings from coming back or overwhelming us.

It’s not a question of ‘snapping out of it’ positive thinking or trying harder. You can’t just snap out of a permanent state of being that you have often practiced feelings for months or years.  It may have taken many years to reach this point in your life, where how your body ‘feels’ is influencing your programmed, automatic mind. It’s going to take some time, understanding and effort, to break-free and create a new, more positive, peaceful life and make your mind your friend.

However, just like turning the volume knob on a radio. You can learn to turn down the volume of the painful emotions, cravings, feelings, thoughts, or memories you may struggle with every day and settle your body emotionally into the safe present moment.
